Based in Flint, MI, Kalm Clothing is taking the industry by storm with its 90s throwback, streetwear designs. The company’s 25-year-old founder and CEO, Kiara Tyler, creates bold, color blocked, athleisure that has caught the attention of investors and Grammy-nominated rappers.
Kalm Clothing Stays Close To Its Roots
Jewel is fully committed to supporting our hometown community and entrepreneurs, so naturally we were impressed to hear about Kiara’s story.
With no background or formal training in fashion, she started selling her designs out of the trunk of her car. She drove to trade shows and fairs throughout the Midwest to introduce her brand to customers. Without an office or production facility, all of her inventory was stored in her small apartment on the north side of Flint. At the start, her following stemmed from people finding her organically through social media.
Tyler is a political science major with a minor in criminal justice from Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. She started Kalm Clothing with pure passion and learned the industry along the way. Since its humble beginnings, Kalm has evolved into a premium streetwear brand offering a full collection of apparel and accessories.
Kalm Clothing has developed a following of young celebrities including, actor Joseph Simmons Jr.; Deja Trimble, better known as DeJ Loaf, a Grammy-nominated rapper from Detroit; comedian Jess Hilarious; and Teyana Taylor, a singer and actress who wore Kalm clothing in her movie “Honey: Rise Up and Dance.”
Kiara just announced this week that she is the proud recipient of an investment deal and to be part of the 100K Ideas Incubator, based in the newly-opened Ferris Wheel Innovation Center in downtown Flint, MI.
“My appreciation runs deep. It’s been a long road & I plan to continue to work hard & make Kalm a staple in the fashion industry!” says Tyler.
We’re fully onboard to see that happen! Follow Kalm Clothing here.
